How Does Video Search Work?
When we say "video search" we don't mean finding a video to watch through its meta data (title description etc). We mean finding a specific scene deep with a given video in a large collection of long form video.
Our video search engine lets users search for words and phrases that occur within a video's narration or dialogue. The search results show a matched scene for every video in a given collection in which some of all of the words searched for are said. In this screen shot, the user has searched for "whip spider".

Each search result shows a still image of the matched scene, the title of the video that matched and the exact line from the soundtrack where the match occurred. To play the video starting at the correct timnepoint, the user can just click the still image and the video will be streamed from that point.

Soundtrack Indexing
To create a search engine for the words in a video soundtrack, we first need to convert the soundtrack to text and then build an index of all the lines of text and all the relevant timepoint data. The end result is similar in format to professional subtitle data.
Subtitle/Caption Indexing
For video content that already has captions or subtitles, we import the subtitle data directly into our video search engine. We pay careful attention to the precise synchronisation of the subtitle data with the actual video soundtrack and the resulting searchable index is accurate to within one second.
Transcript Indexing
Professional speech-to-text conversion is expensive and not all the video content we deal with is subtitled. A cost effective alternative is to take a transcript of the narration and dialogue and break it up into 30 second pieces. The resulting searchable index will be accurate to within 30 seconds which is sufficient for many applications.
Search Engine Hosting
We will host the video search engine and associated indexes and databases on our systems for you.
System Integration
We will integrate the video search engine we set up for you into your existing video web site to provide your users with a seamless video search and result viewing experience. We provide a customisable video text search API for you to connect your video search engine with your existing your video web site. When your users run a search, the results are delivered from our servers into an iframe or similar part of your site. When your users click a search result to play a matched scene, the video is streamed from your existing video servers or from your CDN.
